SELCO CO2

VER credits for SELCO India

Canopus supported the validation of Verified Emission Reduction (VER) credits for the Bangalore based company SELCO INDIA SOLAR LIGHT (P) LTD, which installs and services Solar-Home-Systems (SHS) mainly in rural Southern India.

With the validation and successful marketing of emission reductions credits within the VER scheme, the future installation of SELCO’s Solar-Home-Sytems (SHS) can be partly financed. The project will contribute to reduce the kerosene consumption and reduce CO2 emissions which would have occurred otherwise, in the absence of the project

A future installation of 13 000 SHS annually is expected by the year 2010. A cumulative number of 80 000 households, approximately 6 million people, are targetted as the future users of the solar home systems. As a result, the quality of life for those served will be improved, and a reduction of 450 000 tons of carbon emissions may result during the 20 year life of the solar modules installed within the programme.

The development of the Project Design Document (PDD) was carried out by 500PPM, a carbon validating and trading consultancy.
