From
1999-2000 CANOPUS supported a feasibility study, pilot project and market test
to unite solar energy, communication technologies and microcredit in
Bangladesh. Microsolar brought solar powered information and communication
technologies in remote villages with no access to electricity.
The project provided e-learning and training, access to local market information
telemedicine, e-mail service and other income generating activities with
Grameen Shakti, the CANOPUS foundation's main partner.
Microsolar contributed to test solar systems for Grameen Shakti and to the
expansion of Grameen Shakti IT (information technologies) to remote communities
of Bangladesh.
