Supporting social enterprises
As a private charitable foundation, the Canopus Foundation orients its work on the idea of “venture philanthropy”. The term is not precisely defined; it essentially involves taking concepts and techniques from venture capital finance and business management and applying them to the philanthropic sector. Resources are provided for promising early stage social enterprises and organizations in order to support them within the scope of a strategic partnership over the course of several years. If possible, these enterprises and organizations should be economically self-supporting and able to scale up their social and ecological value. Support from the Canopus Foundation goes beyond financial funding; if required, the foundation provides management skills, market know-how, and technical knowledge.
