Basel Agency for
Sustainable Energy
Basel Agency for Sustainable Energy (BASE)
promotes and facilitates investment in renewable
energy and energy efficiency to accelerate the worldwide
market development of sustainable energy and to
contribute to global climate protection, poverty
mitigation, and conflict prevention.
Canopus is the co-founder and German partner for
BASE. Canopus' Executive Director is a member
of the BASE Management Board and Foundation Board.
Base Deutschland GmbH
From January 2001 to December 2005 Canopus served
as the main German partner and Executing Agency
for New
Energy BASE, a €1.5M trinational
project bringing together enterprises, financing
entities, and public and private organisations
to promote sustainable energy in the region at
the Upper Rhine, where France, Germany, and Switzerland
meet.
The creation of BASE Deutschland GmbH was one
of the many success stories of this project. BASE
Deutschland changed its name to forseo
GmbH on July 1, 2006. forseo works toward
the overall BASE mission within Germany to build
strategic partnerships between entrepreneurs and
financiers to mobilize capital for sustainable
energy. The CANOPUS Foundation holds 75 % of the
shares of forseo GmbH.
Another spin-off project of New Energy BASE is
RegioNER:
Financing innovative energy solutions for the
municipality of the future. RegioNER aims to support
municipalities in the Upper Rhine in financing
and implementing sustainable energy projects.
Since public money for such projects is on the
decline, private capital is becoming increasingly
necessary. Through RegioNER, municipalities will
learn about new financing models and solutions.
forseo GmbH is the Executing Agency for RegioNER.
The RegioNER project is co-funded by Interreg.
